Being autumn in Winnipeg at the moment I really wanted to go out and grab some of the amazing colours that I drive by everyday. Seeing how the sunsets a few hours after work these days, there wasn’t much time.

Adam Carroll and I set out to take some photos near the Red river’s edge. However while rushing out the door it wasn’t until we climbed down to the waters edge that I realized I forgot something rather important at home. While I did remember all my lenses, flashes, mics, pocket wizards and micro-fibre cloths I forgot to grab my camera!

Luckily Adam isn’t nearly as bone headed as me and remembered his camera, while this would seem like a major setback, it proved rather beneficial and thought provoking. Instead of just going and snapping in a rather quick fashion, I was forced to wait and make mental notes of shots I later wanted to shoot when it was my turn to use the one camera. It was a really fun experiment and I’m sure I noticed things I might of missed. The next time you go out shooting with a friend I challenge you to bring one camera to share instead, see how it works out for you, it’s something I’ll be sure to do in the future, though probably with my 5D Mark II vs using a 60D

Welcome new visitors, old friends, past followers and new acquaintances, it’s great to be back!
For those of you who don’t know me my name is Luc Desjardins, I’m an avid cinematographer, photographer and obsessive colorist based out of Winnipeg.
‘the blog of luc’ will be my new online home, where I’ll be posting my new and current cinematography and photography work along with more written pieces.

I choose ‘year of change’ for my first blog post title as many events have transpired in the past couple of months, which also explains my quiet absence from the internets during that period.  To recap very briefly everything; my long term relationship of 6 years was terminated and consequently I was forced to sell my loft in downtown Winnipeg, a few days later I was kicked out of my company I worked on building with my (soon to be) ex-business partner for the past year and a half. To say it was trying times would be putting it lightly.

However we must adapt and move on, and for the first time in a while I can say things are starting to look up I have since taken a position at the University of Manitoba as one of their staff photographers and video technicians. I also just recently settled into a house in South St. Vital (where I grew up) with a couple of college buddies (Adam Carroll & Patrick Strilec-Ferguson ).

Awesome, now with that ‘housekeeping’ taken care of lets get to the interesting stuff; the future! Without giving to much away I’ll be using the next few months to work on a couple of new projects I’ve always wanted to do. One of them will be a weekly Podcast which will be launching shortly. The other will be more long term, an in depth study of writing as I hope to complete a few short film scripts over the winter.

As always I’ll be open to new freelance projects for photography, cinematography and as a colorist (should have a color reel up shortly).
